Department of Landscape Water Conservation
Synopsis:

Basic tasks of landscape engineering and their connection to geoinformation technologies (agriculture, water management, landscape planning).

Requirements:

basic GIS skills

Syllabus of lectures:

Historical development of the landscape in the Czech Republic and its relation to basic degradation processes (water, soil, air).

Overview of geoinformation software used in the Czech Republic for landscape engineering tasks.

Available digital models of terrain (and surface) in the Czech Republic. Global versus detailed models and their relation to accuracy in calculations.

Possibilities, models and approaches for determining water erosion. Sample task.

Basic map servers in the Czech Republic and available data for modelling and monitoring in the landscape of the Czech Republic.

Protection and evaluation of soils in the Czech Republic, basic map works about soil and their implementation in projects.

Analysis of selected catchment area of the fourth order - morphology, soil, vegetation.

Analysis of selected catchment area of the fourth order, precipitation and calculation of erosion wash.

Agricultural Land Register LPIS, a system of soil protection through cross-compliance.

Map servers and data on waters and water bodies in the Czech Republic.

Calculation of sediment transport and siltation of reservoirs in the model area.

Proposals of anti-erosion measures in two variants: reduction of soil degradation, reduction of nutrient transport.

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course is a project and exercises are an organic part of the lectures.

Study Objective:

Preparation of a digital model of the terrain, maps of land use and other input layers and their original sources and available databases in the Czech Republic. Basic characteristics of remote sensing data and their processing. Work with geodatabases and main methods of modeling with GIS support.

Exercises will be focused on solving a specific task of using GIS in landscape engineering in ArcGIS or Atlas DMT.
