Synopsis:

Building monuments consist from rather complicated collection of different materials and functions. It is important to obtain the information about the historical building technologies and materials with respect to the monument protection principles. These information will be obtained during the course.

Requirements:

No prerequisities.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction into the problematics of monument protection and restoration.

2. Non-fired and fired building materials.

3. Stone in monuments.

4. Historical binders I

5. Historical binders II

6. Mortars, plasters, rehabilitaion plasters.

7. Coating materials.

8. Mural paintings.

9. Corrosion - causes and analysis.

10. Analysis of historical plasters and mortars.t

11. Rehabilitation of fasades and stone surfaces.

12. Prevention of water and salt impact on materials.

13. Reinforcing of plasters, mortars and stones.

Syllabus of tutorials:

No exercises.

Study Objective:

The main goal is to introduce to studentds to the problematics of monumets protection, rehabilitation and restoration. Students will obtain information about historical materials and technologies and about possibilities of the monumets rehabilitation.
