Supervisor:
Department of Steel and Timber Structures
Synopsis:

The course is focused on design of steel, steel and concrete concrete composite load-bearing structures. The students will learn how to design of simple structural elements (beams, columns, trusses) and structural bolted and welded connections.

Requirements:

132SM02

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Steel, production; fabrication and erection of structures.

2. Steel properties; material testing, limit states.

3. Global structural analysis, cross section classification.

4. Stability of columns, critical length.

5. Beams, bending resistance; shear resistance.

6. Lateral torsional buckling.

7. Torsion, combined bending and compression.

8. Welded connections.

9. Bolted connections.

10. Steel and concrete composite structures.

11. Fatigue, fatigue design.

12. Corrosion and fire protection of steel structures.

13. Movie of structural behavior, steel fabrication.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Truss elements.

2. Bolted and welded truss joints.

3. Steel beam, simple end plate connection.

4. Cantilever beam, rigid end plate connection.

5. Column, design for buckling.

6. Visit in material testing laboratory, material tests, introduction to electric arch welding.

Study Objective:

The course brings the basic information about design of steel and steel-concrete composite structural elements. The students will learn how to design of simple structural elements (beams, columns, trusses) and structural bolted and welded connections.
