Synopsis:

The course 'Vehicle Dynamics' is aimed at gaining a basic understanding about vehicle lateral dynamics. It offers a good balance between fundamentals and practical aspects of vehicle lateral dynamics in relationship to its suspension components including tyres. With this basis, students will learn how to set up equations of motion and derive fundamental mathematical models to understand and experiment the basic phenomena of Vehicle Dynamics.

1) Introduction into the theory of dynamic systems

2) Forces acting between road and wheel

3) Basics of lateral dynamics

4) Wheel- and axle kinematics

5) Modelling of vehicle components: tyres, springs, dampers

6) Criteria of good handling performance

7) Controlled subsystems of vehicle dynamics: suspension, braking

8) Criteria of lateral stability
