Department of Materials Engineering
Synopsis:

The lectures cover the entire range of non-metallic engineering materials, a majority of them are devoted to polymer materials which are most frequently used in mechanical engineering and the volume of their consumption highly exceeds that of the rest of non-metallic materials. The lectures reveal the relationships between the physical and chemical properties of polymer materials. Emphasis is placed on explaining and understanding the specific concepts and their interrelations.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1.Basics of polymer chemistry

2.Additives for plastics and their function

3.Molecular and supermolecular structure of polymers

4.Physical and chemical properties of polymers

5.Thermal properties of polymers

6.Mechanical propertries, temperature and time dependencies

7.Fracture behaviour of polymeric materials

8.Tribological properties of polymers
