Synopsis:

Introduction to basic methods necessary for quantitative description of processes associated with water flow and transport of substances in natural porous formations. The course focuses on the following thematic areas: Hydraulic characteristics of porous media, governing equations of water flow, initial and boundary conditions; Infiltration, redistribution, evaporation, seepage, capillary rise, throughflow; Flow in saturated formations; Contaminant transport, hydrodynamic dispersion, governing equations of transport, non-conservative transport.
