Synopsis:

Loads to hydraulic structures. Safety load coefficients. Reliability of the construction material. Hydrostatical and hydrodynamic load. Steels and design from steel - pipes, gates, reinforcing elements. Corrosion of steel at hydraulic structures. Anti corrosion protection.

1. Designing, loading, steel

2. Tension, compression - buckling, bending

3. Joints - connections

4. Corrosion of hydraulic structures

5. Vibration and fatigue in hydraulic structures (non-rotational vibration of hydraulic gates)

6. Torsion and torsion resistance of weir gates

7. Reserve - free days

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Design and assessment of the service gangway (weirs, dams)

2. Design and assessment of connections - welds

3. Design and assessment of connections - bolts

4. Completion of the service gangway design

5. Design and assessment of the water conveying flume during construction

6. Design of the flume - continued

7. Reserve - consultation

Study Objective:

To introduce students specific aspects of the design and operation of steel structures in hydraulic engineering. Course focuses on problematic details that do not require special attention in other civil engineering structures.
