Synopsis:

Geotechnical investigation, basic conceptions of rock classification and properties evaluation, laboratory and field testing, elements of calculations in rock mechanics and underground construction, technology of underground constructions

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introductory lecture - history, nomenclature , properties of rock and soil environments, classification of soils and rocks, engineering geological investigation, discontinuities, rock classification, geotechnical investigation

2.Location, underground routing, location of portals, Construction risks, risk analysis, basic design elements

3.Loading of underground structures, Calculation of internal forces in the lining

4.Tunnelling methods, Collectors, Deep tunnels, shaft construction

5.Equipment of underground structures,

6.Current developments in underground construction

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Determining the shape of the embossed traffic tunnel

2. Calculation of tunnel loads with high overburden (e.g. according to Protodiakonov)

3. Calculation of the load of a tunnel with a low overburden (e.g. according to Bierbaumer)

4. Calculation of internal forces in the lining by the Zurabov-Bugaev method

Study Objective:

Orientation in the basic concepts of classification and properties of rocks, mastery of simple methods of calculations in the field of rock mechanics and underground construction, orientation in the technology of construction of underground works.
