Synopsis:

The optional course presents selected chapters on landscape architecture and urbanism, focusing on two thematic blocks - garden art and settlements (urban and rural). It complements the series of compulsory and optional courses at Bachelor and Master level in Environmental Engineering and Architecture and Civil Engineering with various aspects, perspectives and complementary topics that were not covered in the compulsory and optional courses.

Requirements:

The course is completed by credit. Credit is awarded for attendance - minimum attendance at 8 lectures - in case of lower attendance, attendance may be replaced by independent work. The course has no prerequisites and is offered to all interested students across all disciplines.

Syllabus of lectures:

Garden and landscape architecture

1) Medieval gardens - sources of information, features, examples

2) Renaissance and Mannerist gardens - sources of information, features, examples

3) Baroque gardens - sources of information, features, examples

4) Natural landscape park - inspiration, sources of information, features, examples

Urban and rural settlements

5) Cities of (not only) biblical stories. Cities of the Bronze Age Levant

6) Jerusalem and other cities of Israel in New Testament times

7) Cities of the heroes of Greek myths

8) The development of the urban form of Bohemian villages

9) The settlement structure of the Czech countryside with a focus on the Middle Ages

10) The development of the country house

11) New cities of the 20th century (Brasilia)

12) The State Regulatory Commission and the development of Prague during the First Republic

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course has only lectures.

Study Objective:

The aim of the study is to broaden the knowledge of interesting details from the history of garden art, towns and villages, which were not covered in the compulsory and obligatory elective courses. These are selected chapters and topics that vary according to the current academic year and invited guests. The course is intended for those interested in the topics from all fields of study.
