Synopsis:

Students are able to understand and analyze the distribution of resources as an important factor of European integration. They are able to examine the cohesion impact of the main European Union policies. Areas covered include the single market, external trade policy, competition and enterprise policies, research and technological development, social and employment, structural policies. The module emphasizes the relationships that exist between European Union policy interventions and their final impact in different countries, and competitiveness and cohesion.

Requirements:

Bachelor level of university program in economics or business management.

1. REGIONAL INEQUALITY

1.1 Definition of cohesion.

1.2 The tendencies of regional inequality in EU.

2. SINGLE MARKET PROGRAMME

2.1 The integration of products, services, capital and labour markets.

2.2 The economic impact of common market programme.

3. EXTERNAL TRADE POLICY

3.1 The impact of trade policy for regional and social integration.

3.2 The development of trade policy in EU.

4. COMPETITION, COMPETITIVENESS, AND ENTERPRISE POLICIES

4.1 The impact of competition policy for cohesion.

4.2 The competitiveness of industry.

5. RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

5.1 The impact of research and technological development for integration.

5.2 The development features of the policy of research and technological development.

5.3 The impact of research programmes for regional cohesion.

6. SOCIAL AND EMPLOYMENT POLICY

6.1 Social and cohesion policies as main instrument stimulating cohesion.

6.2 The development of social policy in EU.

7. STRUCTURAL POLICY

7.1 The reasons arising of EU structural policy.

7.2 The strategic functions of structural policy.

Study Objective:

At the end of the course students will be able to analyse the impact of integration into European Union (EU) common market and common policies, to assess relations between the common policies of European Union and their impact on regions.
