Synopsis:

Detailed introduction to theoretical approaches to the effects of creep and shrinkage on structures. Principles of time-dependent analysis. Methods for the analysis of thin-walled concrete structures, stability theory.

Requirements:

Knowledge in the design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Adequate knowledge of structural theory.

Syllabus of lectures:

13 lectures in total:

- Basic principles of creep and shrinkage, point and section models

- Expression options for creep manifestations, superposition and linearity of creep manifestations

- Mathematical models of creep prediction

- Relaxation, free and constrained creep

- Solution of concrete creep effects on structures, relaxation method

- Time discretization method, calculation of creep and shrinkage effects using commercial programs

- Problems of excessive deflections of prestressed structures of large spans

- Optimisation of prestressing lines

- Harmonic analysis

- Fracture analysis

- Thin-walled concrete structures

- Stability theory of shell structures

- Summary and review of material covered

Syllabus of tutorials:

- Calculation of creep and shrinkage effects according to various mathematical models and procedures;

- Effect of changes in the static system on the distribution of internal forces and the development of deformations;

- Solution of structures using harmonic analysis methods;

Study Objective:

Deepening of knowledge in the field of concrete structures and bridges, especially with regard to their time-dependent action.
