Synopsis:

Information about main principles of modeling of machines and their parts using finite element method.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

Beam elements; geometry preparation of a FEM model; creation of a free and mapped mesh; boundary condition definition; modelling properties of single bodies; modelling properties of assemblies; analysis of specific designs.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

Importance of modeling in machine design; specification of problem area; main methods for continuum discretization; main principles of FEM; beam elements described with FEM; mass matrix and stiffness matrix; main 2D and 3D elements; constrains; boundary condition specification and preprocessing; postprocessing and interpretation of results; verification; multi-body systems; sensitivity analysis; parametric optimization; topological optimization.
