The course introduces students to the history of the universe and exploring the evolution of technology used for astronomical observations from prehistoric times to the present. The course also deals with the development of people's knowledge about the universe and the impact of this knowledge on humanity and his understanding of planet Earth.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Astronomy in prehistoric times.

2. Written documents on ancient astronomy.

3. Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Kepler, and their time. Newton. Mechanistic view of the Universe.

4. Brief review of our knowledge about surrounding Universe.

5. Solar System and the Universe - the development of the description and understanding.

6. The development of astronomical instruments. Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler - the development of optics for astronomy

7. The development of science as a result of improving the signal-to-noise ratio - option ground-based astronomy. How to measure distances in the Universe?

8. Manned spaceflight.

9. Space technology for Earth observation and space.

10. The Earth - Isle of life and our (real) home? Gaia theory.

11. Risks of current environmental projects and views on the stability of living conditions.

12. Energy and its role in the evolution of mankind.

13. Technology, economy and ecology - the current view of the facts and superstitions.

Study Objective:

The aim of the course is to provide students with a set of basic information about the twisties ways of people looking for a place in the Universe. Planet Earth - a miniature space object.
