- Synopsis:

The subject is focused on the design of concrete elements and constructions of multi-storey buildings - it follows on from the subject Fundamentals of Structural Design. The content of the course is the addition and generalization of procedures for verifying the load-bearing capacity of reinforced concrete structural elements for cases of bending, shear, a combination of biaxial bending and normal force, designing elements stressed by torsion, punching shear, assessment of slender compressed elements. Design procedures are discussed for individual types of structures, including the choice of suitable calculation models and calculation methods and reinforcement principles.

Successful completion of the exam (written exam - test, examples and reinforcing of reinforced concrete elements, evaluation with possibility of oral re-test)

1) Introduction. Procedures for design of RC structures. Computational models and methods.
2) Principles of design of structural systems of multi-storey buildings, structural elements - terminology
3) Frame structures, elements stressed by shear and torsion
4) Elements stressed by a combination of bending and normal forces, slender compressed elements - design procedures
5) Slabs - types, structural function, hollow slabs, influence of penetrations on design and reinforcement
6) Slabs with linear supports - structural function, effect of torsional moments
7) Flat slabs, calculation methods for internal forces, punching shear
8) Bracing of multi-storey buildings - stiffening elements, assumptions and design requirements
9) Staircases - types of concrete staircases, design, reinforcement, execution. Formwork drawings.
10) Foundation structures, basement and retaining walls - types, design approaches.
11) Deep beams - types, methods of design and reinforcement
12) Masonry constructions - terminology and properties of masonry, design of slabs and lintels of masonry buildings, functions of the ring beam
13) Masonry structures - design of walls and pillars for vertical and horizontal loads.

Familiarizing with the topics listed in the Synopsis and Outline. Acquisition of knowledge from the design of monolithic reinforced concrete structures, reinforcement procedures and preparation of drawings.
