Synopsis:

Hygiene: The subject provides an outline in the field of general and municipal hygiene. It is particularly aimed at hygienic requirements of the occupational environment for selected physical and chemical components. The general and municipal hygiene: Development of the hygiene basic provisions concerning hygienic components and their organization. Hygiene of the atmosphere, soil, water and hygiene of settlements. Hygienic requirements for the occupational environment: Occupational hygiene. Physical factors in the occupational environment, temperature and moisture. Conditions of working sites (ventilation and air conditioning, air exchange, heating). Illumination. Visual comfort. Heat. Thermal comfort. Provisions against the noise. Provisions against vibrations. Effects of the noise on the human organism. Harmful chemical compounds and aerosols in the occupational environment. Safety of the occupational environment. Hygiene of waste materials and their removal. Waste waters, solid waste materials, hygiene of water. Protection of the public health and safety and human health protection at work. Risk working sites. Handling with hazardous substances and chemical products. Authorities of the public health protection, state health surveillance. Legislation, roles of the state administration, sanctions, administrative procedures and provisions in extraordinary events.

Epidemiology: Origination and propagation of infectious diseases, i.e. bacterial, viral and parasitic infections. Pathogenesis of the diseases induced, outline of infectious agents. Outline of causes of the origination and propagation of non-infectious diseases, particularly of civilization diseases. Collective immunity, susceptibility and resistance. Active immunization (principle, current use in practice). Passive immunization, vaccines. Safety of vaccines, post-vaccination reactions, vaccination contraindications. Strategy of vaccination programmes. Epidemiological measures focused on the source elimination. Epidemiological precautions aimed at the transmission discontinuation. Basic evaluation of health risks. Methods and procedures of epidemiological monitoring.

Requirements:

Mastering the theoretical foundations of selected fields of hygiene and epidemiology in the range specified by the content of lectures topics. Graded credit: a test with the chosen answers. The test contains a total of 30 test questions: Score: 30 to 29 correct answers = 1 (A) 28 to 27 correct answers = 1.5 (B) 26 to 25 correct answers = 2 (C) 23 to 24 correct answers = 2.5 (D) 21 to 22 correct answers = 3 (E) 20 or less correct answers = 4 (F).

Syllabus of lectures:

First Protection of public health issue, legislation, organizations, health authorities, health institutions, administrative procedures, monitoring of health and the environment, biological monitoring, indicators of health and the environment, environmental health - environmental care

Second Hygiene topic of waste disposal options and the potential health risks, management of health facilities and social care. Microclimate, ventilation, electromagnetic fields, ionizing radiation

Third Topic Physical environmental factors and their influence on the human body, dust, noise, vibration, electromagnetic radiation, temperature, pressure, ionizing radiation

4th Hygiene requirements subject to the establishment and operation of medical equipment, construction and technical requirements.

5th The principles of hygiene and topic protiepidemického mode, disinfection, sterilization, principles of care for medical devices

6th Hygiene topic working environment, risk factors and occupational exposure limits for the working environment (chemical, biological and physical factors), the most common pollutants in the workplace and their impact on health, prevention and protection capabilities, optimization of working conditions and working environment

7th Topic Occupational medicine, physical fitness, preventive medical examinations, workload, occupational disease, safety and health promotion at work, protective equipment and resources

8th The definition of the topic of epidemiology, terminology, epidemiological methods of work and their use.

9th The basic theme of the epidemic process characteristics, epidemiological measures, definitions and objectives of epidemiological surveillance

10th Understanding the epidemiology of infectious theme (epidemiology of malignant neoplasms, diseases

cardio-and cerebrovascular, diabetes, accidents) and environmental epidemiology (environmental factors and their effect on health)

11th Topic Acute respiratory and diarrheal diseases (viral and bacterial)

12th Topic Viral hepatitis, HIV / AIDS and emerging infections (bird flu, SARS)

13th Nosocomial infections theme, factors affecting their emergence and spread, prevention, resistance to antibiotics, the principles of immunization-vaccination calendar

14th Bioterrorism topic - fighting the disease as biological agents
