Synopsis:

Science, character of scientific work and its goals. Basic terminology (hypothesis, rule of law, theory, model). Information portfolio, information searching using information technologies. Experiments in medicine. Measurement process and its evaluation. Use of methods of sociology and psychology. Project proposal, structure of scientific work, defense of scientific work. Searching on internet, in library catalogues, and in bibliographic systems. The content of lectures will be directed to the actual preparation of ppt presentations and written form and content of the project and bachelor's thesis.

Requirements:

A graded credit will be awarded after meeting the following criteria:

(1) Processing of all required ppt presentations according to the syllabus of lectures.

(2) final ppt project presentation

Syllabus of lectures:

1. .Introduction to the subject, aims of the subject. Characteristics of research and science, types of research, connection to legislation and financial resources.

2. Information sources - types, relevance, credibility.Electronic information sources (freely available and accessible through the CTU EIZ gateway). A survey of the current state in the issue - options and procedures.

3. Debate on „Project“ topics. Requirements for abstracts and their structure. Requirements for qualification works and their structure (including BC and DP), practical advice for their creation.

4. Working with PC, text editing

5. Specifics of Czech and English professional language, project topics, selected examples of project syllabus design.

6. Correct and incorrect use of statistical methods in experiments, statistical processing and interpretation of data.

7. Project topics, project outline, project outline elaboration.

8. Topics of projects, elaboration of introduction ppt presentation of introduction.

9. Presentation of professional studies - types and possibilities, requirements and principles.

10. Presentation of results in the form of tables, graphs, diagrams and diagrams. Multimedia presentation of research results, principles for creating presentations and their implementation, technical possibilities.

11.Finishing work on „Project“ - computer room.

12.Summary of the main requirements of MVV in connection with the Project.

2. Clinical trials-aims, importance, types. Pharmaceutical-clinical trials and their phases.

3. Correct and incorrect usage of statistics and testing of hypotheses. Interpretation of results.

4. Statistical analysis-different statistical tests and their selection. Errors and avoiding them.

5. Animal experiments-legal aspects, accessibility, practical information.

6. Ethics in research and clinical trials, ethical committees, informed consent, good clinical practice (GCP).

7. Information resources and their relevancy.

8. Writing of scientific and professional abstracts. Requirements on bachelor and diploma theses. Articles for journals.

9. Presentations of results-tables, charts, diagrams. Multimedia presentations.

10. Czech formal language.

11. English formal language.

12. Redaction and DTP work.

13. Patents and legal aspects.

14. Grants and grant process. European research and student projects.

Study Objective:

The aim of the subject is to teach students the basic information about scientific writing, composing of reports and other publications, about writing the bachelor and diploma theses, overview of the research methods, grant applications and procedures, and usage of different information sources.
