The subject is focused on practical modeling of various technical problems, especially in the field of construction physics of buildings and optimization of structures.

The goal is to learn how to define a problem, create a mathematical and physical model, design a solution algorithm and write this algorithm in Excel or VBA.

Learn how to use Excel effectively and write applications that you can use years from now.

I have been using Excel for work for 25 years and I would like to teach you how to use it effectively not only in building analysis models. Don't expect big science, but rather a practical approach to the problems you will encounter in practice.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Stationary temperature field of layered circuit construction. Data and databases in excel.

2. Fire propagation in a 1D field. A simple example - discretization of space and time. Cyclic calculations in Excel.

3. Non-stationary (dynamic) temperature field of layered circuit construction. Cyclic calculations in Excel

4. Modeling of heat gains and losses of windows. Energy transport by conduction, flow, radiation.

5. User functions and use of VBA in Excel

6. Building-physical behavior of a ventilated structure.

7. Advanced matrix operations in Excel.

8. A network model of the energy behavior of the building.

9. Optimizing the thickness of the thermal insulation of the building.

10. Using Excel to optimize various technical problems.

11. Evolutionary algorithms I

12. Evolutionary algorithms II


Study Objective:

The student will learn to create applications for solving partial practical problems and models in construction physics. It includes problem analysis, creation of a model and a solution algorithm. Implementation of the algorithm and its writing in the VBA and Excel environment.
