Synopsis:

The course serves to acquire knowledge in the field of waterways. It covers the following topics:

Construction of inland waterways and their parameters, methods for improving the navigability of waterways. Integration of the European waterway network. Facilities forming an integral part of waterways, their equipment. Principles of structural, static and hydraulic design of navigation locks and their components. Canals and structures on canals - ship hoists, aqueducts, tunnels, bridges, operational and safety structures. Ports on waterways and their equipment.

Requirements:

The course is primarily intended for students who have not taken a course of similar focus (e.g. 142JVCE)

Syllabus of lectures:

1 - History of water navigation. Waterways in the Czech Republic. Current and prospective investment plans related to the development of water transport in the Czech Republic.

2 - Types of vessels on inland waterways. Progressive modes of transport.

3 - Methods for improving the navigability of waterways.

4 - Classification of waterways. Basic parameters of navigable watercourses. Navigation channels.

5 - Locks - types, filling and emptying systems, construction and equipment of locks.

6 - Calculations and optimization of filling and emptying of locks.

7 - Ship hoists. Ports and transhipment points.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1 - Introduction, background information

2- Filling the lock with short bypasses

3- Forces in mooring lines

4- Stability of the lock wall

5- Calculation of the internal forces in the semi-frame structure of the lock

6 - Design of the main beams of the upright gates

7 - Consultation, submission of assignments, awarding of credit
