- Synopsis:
-
The aim of the course is to introduce students to contemporary aesthetics as a discipline dealing with the effect of artistic and non-artistic objects on their recipients. The lectures will be based on the premise that contemporary aesthetics is characterized by a deepening distance from traditional aesthetics (based on the concepts of taste, beauty, nobility and genius, on the relationship between aesthetics and art, ethics or nature). We will also focus on contemporary topics such as aesthetics in the field of mass and digital media, everyday life, public space and sports. Students will be introduced to both theoretical texts in the field of sociology, modern art theory, and concrete projects (in the field of painting, sculpture, theater, film and music). Continuous consideration will be given to the sociological aspect of aesthetics, i.e. how the way in which artistic artifacts are perceived and created is reflected in the fact that the given artifact is always created and perceived within a certain community or a certain community.
