The course includes a set of lectures focused on the production technology, properties and behaviour of materials based on silicates, aluminates and related materials. The chemical and technological aspects of the subject are discussed.

The technology of PC production. Main phases of portland clinker.
The hydration of PC. Structure and properties of fresh and hardened cement paste.
Blended cement, special cement types.
Additives and admixtures.
Aggregates and interfacial transition zone.
Special concretes.
Ceramics.
Geopolymers, inorganic surface layers.
Hydrophobization.
The thermodynamics of silicate systems.

The goal of study is understanding to behaviour and properties of inorganic bunders. Student is able to evalate suitability of binder for given application.
