Synopsis:

System of roofs structures. Creation of numerical models for assessment of internal forces and deformations for main different roof systems and structures. Analysis of the static function and behaviour of main individual elements and their design. Historic structures and their reconstruction. Designing typical structural details based on carpentry joints. We will discuss also using modern methods of joining elements of timber structures.

Requirements:

Timber Structures 1 (134TS1) or Steel and Timber Structures 2 (134OD2A)

Syllabus of lectures:

-Introduction to load-bearing structures of roofs and trusses.

- Basic division, structural systems.

- Construction of roof structures - individual systems I.

- Construction of roof structures - individual systems II.

- Bearing structures of flat and other roofs.

- Roofing of objects with various spatial structures (distorted surfaces, spatial lattice structures, etc.).

Syllabus of tutorials:

- Practical calculation of loads on structures .

- Numerical models - principles and examples.

- Design of the collar structure.

- Numerical models of historical structural systems.

- Numerical models of historical structural systems - continued.

- Conclusions from numerical analysis and design of dimensions of individual elements.

Study Objective:

Gaining knowledge about designing load-bearing structures of roofs, their basic structural elements and basic types of joints.
