Synopsis:

The course brings an introduction to the Philosophy, Ethic, Methods and Practices of Conservation of Monuments, Historic Buildings, Urban Ensembles and Landscapes in their historic development and current state. It gives the Basic Information on Historical and Archaeological Survey and Documentation of Monuments, their Listing and Legal Protection in the Czech Republic. The current state of Conservation Practice inclusive the Technological aspects will be demonstrated on the selected illustrative cases. Attention will also be payed to the International context and collaboration in these fields.

II. lecture: The Birth of Modern Heritage Care

III. lecture: State protection of monuments in the Czech Republic

IV. lecture: International context, global perspective on contemporary issues

V. lecture: The phenomenon of cultural landscape protection

VI. lecture: History of Prague and heritage protection in the capital

I. excursion: Roof landscape and city panorama

II. excursion: New ideas in the complex structure - Prague Castle

III. excursion: Transformation of structures in past eras - The Lesser Town Augustinian monastery

IV. excursion: Methods of monument preservation in the last century in examples - Old Town - Karolinum and Chapel of Bethlehem

V. excursion: The story of the disappeared structures and their restoration - Old Town square.

VI. excursion: Prague Landscape and Parks
