Synopsis:

Spectroscopic application of the unique properties of laser radiation, selected advanced laser spectroscopy techniques

Requirements:

The course concludes with an oral exam demonstrating understanding of the physical nature of the topics covered.

Previous attending of the 12OSP course is required.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Recapitulation of basic principles of matter-radiaton interactions and of basic spectroscopic methods

2. Laser radiation and its unique properties for spectroscopy

3. Methods of ultrasensitive detection

4. High-resolution spectroscopy (tunable lasers, low temperature methods, molecular beams)

5. Ultrashort pulses(generation, manipulation, characterization)

6. Highly time-resolved spectroscopies

7. Nonlinear optical processes

8. Spectroscopies utilizing multiphoton absorption and ionization

9. Nonlinear spectroscopic techniquesˇ(coherent Raman scattering, SFG, ...)

10. Methods based on high-order nonlinearity (vibrational and electronic 2D photon echo)

11. Terahertz spectroscopy

12. Microspectroscopy, correlation spectroscopy, single-molecule spectroscopy
