Synopsis:

Specifics of urban roads, functions and transverse layout of urban roads, principles of at-grade intersections design, roundabouts, organization, traffic regulation and management, traffic calming, safety audit and inspection, traffic survey and documentation of selected elements of urban roads.

Requirements:

Submission of all tasks within the prescribed deadline and to the prescribed extent.

Presentation of the selected task in one of the last classes.

Compulsory attendance in classes, maximum 3 excused absences.

Continuous correction of work and control during the course.

The above requirements are necessary but not sufficient conditions for success passing the subject

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to urban roads, specifics of urban roads.

2. Urban road function, transverse arrangement according to ČSN 73 6110 – technical requirements, examples of various solutions,

3. Intersections – division, differences, capacity, advantages and disadvantages of individual types, technical parameters needed to handle the given task.

4. Roundabouts

5. Samples of projects, bachelor's and diploma theses, samples of safety audits, safety inspections, lookouts - intersection, pedestrian crossing

6. presentation of the selected TASK

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. TASK 1 - Solving the reconstruction of the road with a focus on adjusting the transverse layout of the urban road.

2. TASK 2 - Documenting two intersections (one appropriately designed and one inappropriately designed, including accident rate evaluation + proposal for reconstruction)

3. TASK 3 - Verification of viewpoints at the selected pedestrian crossing and intersection.

4. Traffic survey

6. reserve for dropping out of classes

Study Objective:

Expansion of knowledge from the basic study, clarification of methodologies used in czech technical standards and in practice.
