- Synopsis:
-
The student will be introduced to the determination of the loading of geotechnical structures from natural and technical seismicity, will get an overview of the properties of dynamically loaded soils and rocks, including the procedures for determining these properties. In addition, the student will learn the basic procedures for assessing the effects of technical seismicity and earthquakes on selected geotechnical structures (slab foundations, frame and retaining walls, embankments, slopes, tunnels).
- Requirements:
-
None
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
Dynamic properties of soils
Earthquakes, earthquake mechanism, earthquake intensity and earthquake risk
Engineering seismicity, seismic loads
Dynamic effects of machinery on building foundations
Soil liquefaction, evaluation of the possibility of sand liquefaction by in-situ measurements
Dynamic soil improvement
Soil-structure interaction under dynamic loading
Design of earthquake resistant structures - foundations,
Design of earthquake resistant structures - retaining and frame walls
Determination of slope stability under seismic loading
Design of underground structures for seismic loads, piping under seismic loads
- Syllabus of tutorials:
-
1. Determination of the seismic wave velocity based on the reraction measurement, evaluation of the cyclic load on the test plate. Determination of dynamic parameters Determination of dynamic loading of geotechnical structures
2. Determination of the possibility of liquefaction of a given sand layer. Co-constructed structures and soils
3. Design of dynamically loaded branched arm structure by Monobe - Okabe and Seed methods
