Students will learn basic concepts of material engineering in technical professions.
Terms steel and cast iron. Making of casts: model apparatus, formatting materials, formatting and casting. Welding witch flame and electric circuit. Basic concepts of surface modifications. Basic ways of machining. Basic ways of turning work, drilling and rubbing.
The subject is made in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical engineering at CTU.

Knowledge of basics in mechanics and thermostatics
- Syllabus of lectures:

1. Foundry practice - industrial processes in mechanical engineering, casts, casting forms, compounds, making of cast iron, smelteries
2. Shaping of metals - heat shaping, measuring of the temperature, rolling process, cold shaping, cutting, bending, perforating
3. Welding - different types of welding, welding and riveting, welding and forging, welding works, protective atmosphere, oxygen cutting
4. Surface modifications
5. Machining - basic station in machining, technological conditions, rotating surface machining, machining of holes, cutting, brushing

1. Foundry practice: forms making and making of a cast from Al-Si compound.
2. Shaping: tools and instruments, forging on a press.
3. Welding: practical demonstrations.
4. Machining: basics processes, cutting tools, practical lessons
