Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to introduce to students specific safety risks and measures for their elimination or their reduction during installation and utilization of technical equipment determined for health care provision - medical devices and some other devices and equipment of general character. In the first place safety against electric current accident. The students will be informed about safety against influence of gas pressure, medical gases and ionizing radiation. Important topics are not only organizational and technical measures concerning safety but also verifiable records about them. Therefore the course also focuses on the databases of medical technology in the health care institution. Further important topics linked to previous ones are management of health care technology (HCT), expert management of HCT, analysis of HCT failures, proposals of measures and solutions, safety and security technological checks- principles and application.

Requirements:

The main source for assessment and examination is successful passing two written tests (after first half and in the end of the semester). Level of student activity during the whole semester will also influence the final evaluation.

Syllabus of lectures:
Syllabus of tutorials:

Form: colloquial - combination of lectures and seminars with space for questions, discussion and student reactions. Main topics:

- Types of protection against electric current accidents - repetition, addition

- Environment in rooms for medical purposes from the electrical engineering point of view

- Specificity of electric energy distribution in rooms for medical purposes

- General requirements on medical electric devices

- Electric control of medical devices during production and their utilization or after repair or maintenance

- Tools for registering medical devices, definition of requirements on SW and HW - organization, work flow, impact of human factor. Demonstration of advanced SW solution

- Management of medical technology, failure analysis, safety and security technological checks

- Protection against ionizing radiation

- Safety at manipulation with medical gases, with pressure containers

Study Objective:

The ambition od this course is to introduce students to

measures applicated for design and construction of medical equipments (ME) as well as for their safe use. Electrical safety of ME is preferred in lectures, but also their essencial performance, risk minimalization when

using ionizing radiaton or safe utilization of medical gases is treated.
