Synopsis:

This course provides an introduction to the philosophy, ethic, methods and practices of the conservation of monuments, historic buildings, urban ensembles and landscapes in their historic development and current state. It gives basic information on historical and archaeological survey and documentation of monuments, their listing and legal protection in the Czech Republic. The current state of conservation practice, inclusive of the technological aspects will be demonstrated with selected illustrative cases. Attention will also be paid to the international context and collaboration in these fields.

Requirements:

The minimum number of students to open the course is 5. EXCEPTION for self-paying students: if there are less than 5 students, the course will be taught in consultations.

2.Brief introduction to the history of architecture of the Czech lands.

3.History of the preservation of historical monuments in the Czech lands.

4.History of the preservation of historical monuments in the Czech lands.

5.Types of failures of historical monuments.

6.Types of failures of historical monuments.

7.The analysis of the present state of historical monuments.

8.The analysis of the present state of historical monuments.

9.Measurement of historical monuments.

10.Restoration of historical gardens.

11.Restoration of historical gardens.

12.Historical analysis of monuments.

13.Present Czech legislation on monument preservation.

14.Old and new, examples of a design respecting the value of a historical monument.
