Synopsis:

The subject is focused on practical application of computer aided design of structures in the field of concrete structures.

Requirements:

- basic PC skills

- knowledge of the principles of structural mechanics and mathematics

- basic knowledge of design of concrete structures

Syllabus of lectures:

Syllabus of tutorials:

1) Fundamentals of effective work in MS Excel, selected problems and commands

2) Basic principles of working in SCIA Engineer - setting up a simple problem (geometry, supports, loads, basic results)

3) Basic principles of working in SCIA Engineer - importing geometric data and cross-sections from AutoCAD, definition of loads with respect to combinations, load combinations

4) Basic principles of working in SCIA Engineer - specification of composite steel-concrete structures, temperature and settlement loads, stress assessment

5) Moving loads on beam elements - input and assessment

6) Construction and service phase 1 - composite steel-concrete structure, definition of loads, assessment of results (internal forces and stresses)

7) Construction and service phase 2 - prestressed structures, prestress definition, TDA, assessment of results

8) Nonlinearities in beam structures - nonlinear supports, nonlinear elements, specifics of load definition, combinations of loads, assessment of results

9) Analysis of plate structures in SCIA Engineer - basic principles, specifics of solutions and assessment of results

10) Analysis of plate structures in SCIA Engineer - member combinations in structure, methods to simplify assessment, moving loads

Study Objective:

To introduce students to the basic specifics and problems of structural design using computer technology, solving typical problems related to numerical analysis of structures.
