Synopsis:

Basics of interior design: the relationship of functions to the design of interior space, scale, physical properties of the interior and their influence on the human senses (light, sound, thermal comfort + artwork, etc.).

Separate lectures: daylight and artificial light, sources and requirements. Psychology of colour. Acoustics of indoor spaces. The overall effect of residential and commercial interiors on human psyche and client success.

Classical materials for floors, walls, ceilings, suspended ceilings. Basic design structures in the furniture industry.

New materials: nanotechnology, high-pressure metallaminates, polymethyl methacrylates, membrane structures in interior design.

Requirements:

To obtain credit, you must actively participate in the exercises (three absences are allowed) and submit a completed conceptual design according to the instructor's assignment. The submission method will be specified by each instructor. The exercises will be evaluated as pass/fail.

There are two ways to take the exam:

A) Based on bonus tests written during lectures.

B) Registering for the regular exam date and taking an oral exam.

What is considered to be interior design and its main physical properties in relation to each other and individually, and their effect on the human psyche: Space and layout of functions and feng shui, colors, daylight and artificial light, acoustic and thermal comfort in space, artwork and living elements.

Syllabus of tutorials:

A specific interior design problem is assigned, which students work on and consult during the semester. The subject of work in the exercises is the conceptual design of a small-scale interior with elaboration of selected details. During the semester a field trip and demonstration of specific materials in the form of samples is included.

Study Objective:

The ability to creatively design and deal with different types of interior spaces Gaining the ability for sensitive use of materials, colours, surfaces, textures and to reach desired optical effects in the interior.

Study materials:

A list, including recommended websites of leading design studios and manufacturers, is included in the first lectures, along with an example of the development of interior design in recent years.
