Synopsis:

Radio systems and their parameters, radar and position determination systems especially. Principles, properties, parameters and applications.

Requirements:

Electromagnetic wave propagation.

Antenna parameters.

Signals presentation in time and frequency domains.

Correlation function, delay argument meaning.

Spectra of analogue modulated signals, especially harmonic carrier modulated by harmonic signal.

TDMA, FDMA, CDMA.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Radio systems and their characteristics. Strength of signals and sensitivity, direction patterns. Special systems. navigation systems and radar. Position determination methods: AOA, TOA, TDOA. Frequency bands.

2.Satellite systems I - principles and methods. Precision, DOP. Ionosphere refraction compensation. Receiver principal schema.

3.Satellite systems II - system GPS. Constellation, system parameters, range signal. Structure and protection of navigation message. Services. Modernization, satellites IIR - M, IIF a III.

4.Satellite systems III - system GLONASS. Constellation, system parameters, navigation message.

5.Satellite systems s IV - system Galileo. Constellation. Signal structure, frequencies, modulations BOC, AltBOC a BOCm. Services. Augmented and assisted systems. SBAS, EGNOS, QZSS. BEIDOU/COMPASS.

6.Automatic direction finders, ADF and NDB beacons. Low Jack (Lojack). System VOR, principles, beacon, receiver and indication. DVOR beacon.

7.Distance measurements, DME - principles, beacon and receivers. Radio altimeter. Systems ILS a MLS. Hyperbolic systems - LORAN C, eLORAN.

8.Radar and its principles, main parameters and frequency bands, primary and secondary radars.

9.Signals and time schedule of radar. Signal compression, uncertainty function.

10.Radar equation. Reflexivity of targets. Radar signal propagation. MTI.

11.Active radar, receiver - transmitter block. Structure and functional blocks of radars.

12.Radar transmitter and its design. Antennas and their properties. RF circuits.

13.Primary, secondary and tertiary signal processing of radar signals. Doppler processing and detection.

14.Secondary surveillance radar, principles, signals. Passive radar, principles, precision, position assessment and precision.

4.Time delay measurement with CCF application.

5.Identification and mitigation of multipass.

6.Signal search in tau/f space.

7.Uncertainty function.

11.Velocity and position unambiguous determination.

12.Measurement precision and resolution.

13. Radar equation, ranges and dynamic range

14. SSR range.
