- Synopsis:
-
The course reviews the most recent trends in medical and rehabilitation technologies which make it possible to create and utilize direct link e.g. between human cognitive funcitions and technical devices resulting in various revolutional enhancements applied in current medicine (e.g. cochlea implants, devices for visual or motor neuroprostheses). The course covers basics of neuron modelling as well as methods of stimulating nerves and recording neural signals which can be applied in the intended devices. Emphasis is put on the explanation of design issues used in technical solutions. Education will have the form of classical lectures provided in 3 blocks: the first block is dedicated to neuron modelling and to stimulating/recording nerves, the second will treat cochlea implants and visual enhancement technologies, the last block is devoted to problems of motor prostheses and to emerging technologies.
