Weldability and metallurgy of welding. Welding thermal cycle and temperature fields. Heat affected zone and heat input. Heat treatment of welded joints. Use of ARA diagram for welding. Definition of weldability and weldability assessment. Weld defects- cracks and their cause. Crack sensitivity assessment, weldability tests. Weldability of metals (steels, non ferrous alloys - Cu, Ni, Al, Ti, Mo, W). Welding of cast iron and cast steels. Welding of cryogenic and high temperature materials. Heterogeneous welded joints.
