Anotace:

The course builds upon the Computer Networks course (BI-PSI), obligatory for the program. Students will learn in detail principles, protocols, and technologies used in modern computer networks from local area networks up to Internet, with focus on switching, routing, security, and virtualization. The emphasis will be on gaining practical experience with real network devices in the lab and learning important methods of local area and wide area networks from the viewpoint of functionality, performance, and security.

Požadavky:

Knowledge of computer networks at the level of the BIE-PSI.21 course.

Osnova přednášek:

1. Principles of construction for virtual local area networks (VLANs)

2. Advanced configuration and automatic administration for VLANs.

3. Bridging and Spanning Tree Protocols.

4. Technologies for increasing the throughput of computer networks.

5. Advanced routing: from static to using more than one routing table instances.

6. Interior dynamic routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP).

7. Exterior dynamic routing, protocol BGP.

8. Multicast traffic: principles, routing, protocols IGMP and PIM-SM.

9. Security policies, monitoring the traffic in computer networks.

10. Quality of Services, traffic shaping.

11. Multilayer network architectures.

12. Introduction to Software Defined Networks (SDNs).

13. Summary of modern computer network principles.

Osnova cvičení:

1. Virtual local area networks (VLAN), channel bonding, protocols STP, RSTP, MSTP.

2. Layer 2 macrosegmentation.

3. Protocols for efficient frame switching at the data-link layer.

4. Interoperation of the mentioned protocols.

5. Protocols for interior routing (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP).

6. Route redistribution - basic.

7. Inter VLAN routing with a dedicated router.

8. Inter VLAN routing without a dedicated router - Switched Virtual Interfaces.

9. Protocols for exterior routing (eBGP).

10. The need for segmentation of autonomous systems. Confederation and community.

11. Virtual routing and data forwarding. Layer 3 macrosegmentation.

12. Inter-VRF communication.
