Anotace:

An optional one-semester course will focus students on topics that deal with changes in the historic cultural landscape.

Osnova přednášek:

The course will explore the traditional issues of the functional and spatial organization of landscape parks and their systems within their urban structures and in the light of the new urbanism and transect theory, of landscape urbanism and sustainable built environments. The course will address the processes that have historically transformed landscapes and discuss the traditional practices and techniques of the garden, park, and urban design, where the open spaces and natural systems structure the landscape and urban forms and sustainable built environments. Historical development and transformations of gardens, parks, and landscapes, including philosophies, processes, and techniques will be discussed and presented in various relevant cases; from the Ancient times, through the medieval period, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism, to our days. Depending on the weather conditions, there will be relevant field excursions executed.

7. Renaissance of cultural landscapes

Parks, gardens, and rebirth of the cultural landscape

8. Mannerism, Baroque

New structural changes in the cultural landscapes

9. Classicism and enlightenment, Industrial revolution and new forms of landscape structuring, Country living, Ornamental farms, Romanticism and the Renaissance of nature in the countryside, Landscape park, aesthetics of rural and forest landscapes, structured landscapes

10. Landscape Urbanism, Landscape parks in settlements and industrial agglomerations, Structured urban park systems, Traditional and contemporary forms, and trends

Osnova cvičení:

Field excursions within the course will be structured to enhance students' personal spatial experience with the issues of transformation, structuring, care, conservation, and management of important sites of historical and contemporary landscapes, including public gardens, parks, and landscapes. Based on the knowledge, experience, and practice that will be presented during the course through presentations, case studies, and study field excursions, the students will actively participate in the preparation of individual papers in the form of written studies or essays on a chosen topic, or in the form of analytical graphic studies for selected problem sites

Cíle studia:

Within the course presented problems will explore the origins, approaches, methods, principles and techniques of care, protection and management of structurally diversified cultural landscapes, as well as their transformations into current agro-industrial and suburban landscapes, in the light of the complexity of cultural, natural and aesthetic function values that traditionally shape the structural diversity of the environment.
