History of masonry structures. Basic properties of masonry structures. Materials (bricks, mortar, concrete filler, reinforcement) - properties and testing. Masonry - properties and testing: compressive strength, shear strength, strength in bending, strain, rheological changes. Design of elements in compression. Masonry walls loaded by lateral load perpendicular to wall. Simplified methods for analysis of masonry structures (Assumptions. Vertically loaded walls. Checking of compressed walls and walls subjected to shear. Stiffening of the building - stability of building up to three floors.) Structural model for masonry analysis. Reinforced masonry. Detailing. Execution of masonry structures. Design with help of Excel files for reinforced masonry analysis. Failures of masonry structures - examples.
