Synopsis:

The lectures present basic requirements concerning telecommunication systems, processes of research, development and production, principles and methods of construction design. There are discussed requirements related to implementation of individual parts in the systems, modern component parts, testing, measuring, technical support and servicing of telecommunication systems. The main part of exercises is dedicated to projects that make students familiar with advanced features, designing, simulation, configuration, testing and measuring of modern ICs and blocks for telecommunication systems. Excursions to manufacturing facilities are included in the program.

Requirements:

Acquaintance with the fundaments of digital transmission and switching technology. Principles of PDH, SDH, xDSL, analog filters and switching networks.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. General and basic requirements for telecommunication products.

2. Description of the process research - development - production in telecommunications.

3. General principles and methods for construction design of telecommunication systems.

4. Excursion to a manufacturing facility - quality control in practice.

5. Technical support and servicing of telecommunication systems.

6. Parameters of interfaces and mechanical construction of telecommunication systems.

7. Methods of assembly and interconnection in telecommunication systems.

8. Elements of telecommunication systems - passive and electromechanical.

9. Elements of telecommunication systems - programmable analog circuits.

10. Elements of telecommunication systems - programmable digital circuits.

11. Elements of telecommunication systems - circuits for PDH systems.

12. Elements of telecommunication systems - circuits for SDH systems.

13. Elements of telecommunication systems - circuits for equipment of access networks.

14. Measuring and testing of telecommunication systems by their development, introduction and operation.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Introduction to Project I: „Design and implementation of filters using programmable analog circuits“.

2. Project I - Design and simulation of the filter.

3. Project I - Implementation of the filter and verification of its parameters.

4. Delivery of Project I. Introduction to Project II: „Testing and configuration of circuits for PDH“.

5. Project II - Testing of the system bus.

6. Project II - Testing of the E1 interface.

7. Project II - Testing of E1 interface electrical parameters.

8. Project II - Testing the collaboration of two devices.

9. Delivery of Project II. Excursion to a company - manufacturing of telecommunication systems in practice.

10. Introduction to Project III: „Design and implementation of a switching network using FPGA“. Introduction to VHDL.

11. Project III - Getting familiar with the environment for development, simple construction elements.

12. Project III - Design of 2x2 space-division switching network for E1.

13. Project III - Design of 2x2 time-divided switching network for E1.

14. Finishing and delivery of Project III. Assignment of credits.
