Synopsis:

The course focuses on understanding the position of the individual in society, his/her positions and roles, the process of socialization and the social structure of society with emphasis on the position of the individual in the organization. Sociology provides the student with the basic context for understanding other disciplines that make up the content of the study (economics, management, marketing).

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to sociology as a discipline, basic paradigms; setting of requirements for the course

2. The individual's position in society, the socialization process, culture as part of society, and sociological imagination.

3. The position and role of the individual in society, society's social structure, and society's stratification.

4. Social inequalities, norms and deviations.

5. Sociological research and its conceptualization, working with sources, and research ethics.

6. Basic techniques and tools of quantitative research and qualitative research.

7. The bureaucratization of society - the view of M. Weber and his opponents. Basic features of a bureaucratic society.

8. The vicious circle of bureaucracy. The impact of bureaucratisation on organisations.

9. Sociology of organisation - basic concepts. Organization as a consequence of institutionalization. Organisation as

social construct.

10. Signs, tools, types, and structure of organizations.

11. Power in the organization. Culture of the organization. Organization functionality as a consequence of interpersonal relationships.

12. Social groups in the organisation. Informal ties and relationships in the organization, their cause and effect.

13. New perspectives on the nature of organizations from a sociological perspective. New ways of communication and role division.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

The aim of the study is to develop a basic understanding of society as a system composed of individuals between whom relationships and ties are built. The orientation in the basic concept of sociology will allow to gain knowledge within a narrower focus on the relationships and structure of society in an organisation and to acquire basic research methods.
