Synopsis:

Practical experience with measurements in laboratories, electrical equipment, power supply, electrical installation of low voltage, electric shock hazard, symbols and labeling, nominal voltage, maximum allowed currents, electrical equipment protection against short circuit and overload protection, control and revision, first aid, legislation, standards and regulations in relation to health and safety and electrical engineering.

Requirements:

Graded credit: attendance at laboratory exercises (max. 1 absence), >50% of points from laboratory measurement records, >50% of points from a closed-question credit test;

Syllabus of lectures:

accidents at work, electrocutions, statistics;

basic safety training;

effects of electric current on humans, operations and work on electrical equipment;

safety symbols and marking, safety of electrical items;

first aid for electrical accidents, technical workplace layout, electrical grids;

circuit breakers and protective devices;

protection against electrical shock, basic protection and protection in case of malfunction;

low-voltage electrical installations;

Syllabus of tutorials:

Seminar exercises:

DC circuits and safety;

AC circuits and safety (2×);

Laboratory exercises:

AC circuits;

loop impedance;

characteristics of protective electrical devices;

Study Objective:

Student is familiar with safety and health concerning electrical devices, is able to assess risk and prevent hazards when working with electrical devices, knows the ways of danger by electric shock and knows how the equipment and installation are made to be safe enough.
