Study Objective:

The aim is to provide students with a basic understanding of refrigeration technology used for air conditioning in buildings. Students will be introduced to the theoretical basis of thermodynamics and the requirements for the design and sizing of refrigeration technology. A core part of the course will be a detailed exploration of different system solutions for building air conditioning including practical aspects of design and sizing. Other objectives include an understanding of the working fluids used in refrigeration technology, the principles of mechanical refrigeration in compressor, absorption and sorption systems, identification of important components of refrigeration technology, and issues of refrigerant distribution in buildings. The curriculum also includes an understanding of various methods of cold sharing for the building environment and an introduction to basic air conditioning systems.
