Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering
Synopsis:

The subject is focused on application of modern theory of time delay systems in (mechanical) engineering applications. After introducing properties of a given class of infinite order systems and control design methods, attention is paid to the analysis of specific problems in engineering practice.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

Systems with distributed parameters and their description by time delay models, classification and structure of time delay systems

Mathematical model synthesis for a time delay system

Spectral and frequency characteristics of time delay systems, stability of retarded systems

Strong stability of neutral systems with time delays

Pole placement based design of a finite order controller - spectral optimization methods

Delay compensation schemes, Smith's predictor and its robust modifications

Internal model control for delayed systems.

Modelling and control of distributed processes with transport delays, distribution networks, heat piping systems

Analysis of regenerative chatter in machining, vibrations due to delays in turning and milling processes

Time delay algorithms for vibration suppression, delayed resonator

Compensation of oscillatory modes of flexible systems by signal shapers with delays
