Activity in class and assignments - 30 %

Syllabus of lectures:

- Introduction, history of technology, modernization, postmodernity

- ICT development, Information Age, Internet as a human right, E-democracy, E-participation, E-voting, E-stonia, Web 2.0, social networks and social mobilization

- Election manipulation, personalization of content, algorithms, filter bubbles; negative impact of ICT on health

- Mass surveillance in democracies, PRISM program, The Pegasus Project, data protection, GDPR, Open Internet

- Digital authoritarianism, fake news, internet trolls, censorship

- Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence

- Hybrid conflicts, cyberattacks, remote-control weapons

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with social and political risks of modern information and communication technology (ICT). The course will concentrate on improving media literacy, strengthening information skills, understanding the concepts associated with the topic, increasing awareness of potential security threats on the Internet, and last but not least improving the ability to analyse the role of ICT in society.
