Synopsis:

The student gets acquainted with the basic philosophical terminology, the fundamental philosophical directions on which ethics is based. He is acquainted with the history of ethics and understands the basic principles of Christian ethics and bioethics. He also knows the codes of ethics used in clinical practice, has knowledge of ethics concerning current biomedical research, can analyze alternative medicine's ethical problems, and take their positions on them

Requirements:

1)Passing written test

2)Elaboration and presentation of work dealing with the ethical issue

Syllabus of lectures:

1) Ethics as a philosophical category. The roots of ethics. Basic concepts.

2) History of medical ethics. Ethics as a traditional part of medicine. The emergence of medical ethics as a modern discipline. .

3) Ethics in the work of ophthalmologist and optometrist.

4) The relationship between legal and ethical standards, the emergence and development of contemporary deontological codes of ethics in health care.

5) Code of ethics of non-medical health worker in relation to the profession of ophthalmologist and optometrist.

6) Codes of ethics protecting patients' rights in health care.

7) Patients' rights and the profession of ophthalmology and optometry.

8) Issues of informed consent, problems in the application of informed consent in practice.

9) Informed consent and its use in the practice of ophthalmologist and optometrist.

10) Data protection, duty of confidentiality and breach of confidentiality. Conscientious objection.

11) Ethical and legal standards governing medical research.

12) Ethical issues of dying and death. Ethical issues in organ transplantation.

13) Ethical aspects of assisted reproduction, cloning, genetic testing.

14) Resource allocation, the problem of price and cost in health care. Introduction of new technologies in medicine, ethics of advertising.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

The course aims are to present basic philosophical concepts, an overview of philosophical trends, and the historical development of ethical schools. Ethical codes needed for the profession of paramedics are presented. The course's aim is primarily to form ethical attitudes, which are part of the professionalism of health professionals.
