Basics of cytology, general histology, microscopic anatomy, and embryology. Basics of processing samples for histological examination. Histological structure of eye and its accessory structures. Development of eye in human embryo.
- Requirements:

Assessment: active participation in practical classes, fulfillment of requirements for assessment, knowledge covering the extent of the course (test)
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
1. Cytology - introduction, general structure of cells, cell membrane, organels, inclusions, cytoskeleton, nucleus
2. Epithelial and connective tissues - epithelial cells, specializations of cellular surfaces, classification of epithelia, glandular epithelium, general structure of connective tissue, connective tissue proper, cartilage, bone.
3. Nerve and muscle tissues – general structure, neurons, synapses, neuroglia, myelination, types of muscle tissue, mechanism of muscle contraction
4. Blood, hemopoiesis, basic microscopic anatomy - blood elements and their development, microscopic structure of basic organs of the human body
5. Sense organs and structure of eye – classification of sense organs, microscopic structure of eye, layers of eyeball, refractory and accessory structures of eye
6. Fundamentals of embryology, eye development – periods of prenatal development, fertilization, blastogenesis, development of bilaminar and trilaminar germ disc, development of basic organ systems, development of eye.

1. Histology – introduction and basic laboratory techniques. Cytology – cell in the light and electron microscopes.
2. Epithelial and connective tissues - study of slides and electron micrographs.
3. Nerve and muscle tissues - study of slides and electron micrographs.
4. Blood – study of peripheral blood smears. Basics of microscopic anatomy I - study of selected slides of basic organs.
5. Basics of microscopic anatomy II - study of selected slides of basic organs. Eye - practical demonstration of histological structure.
6. Eye - practical demonstration of histological structure (finishing)
7. Assessment – test
