Synopsis:

Characteristic defects and failures of buildings, the analysis of load effects and influences in terms of the occurrence of failures, non-force effects and influences, cyclic effects, load history, mechanisms of failure of building materials and structures, degradation and corrosion processes, transport processes, time dependence properties and „building - environment“ interactions.

1. Diagnostics and monitoring of buildings construction technical survey, diagnostics, monitoring and evaluation of buildings

2. - 4. Load effects and influences, degradation processes - non-force and force load effects, cyclic loading, effect of humidity, temperature, seismicity, forced deformation, biodegradation, chemical degradation, force effects

5. Case study - Milíkov Estate, Kozlov Church

6. Case study - Bečov Castle, Premonstratensian Monastery in Teplá

7. 9. Case study - Charles Bridge, Libeňský Bridge

10-11 Prefabricated structures construction interventions, defects, malfunctions, case study

12. presentation of results of semester papers

Note:

A newly conceived subject focused on the analysis and diagnosis of failures of historical load-bearing structures. The course will also include an excursion to one of Prague's historic buildings, supplemented by expert interpretation and a tour of normally inaccessible parts of the structure. If interested, a visit to the diagnostic laboratory and a demonstration of material testing is also possible.
