The course aims to familiarise students with the actual decommissioning process. The syllabus of the subject is built in the sense of the actual course of the preparation and realization of the decommissioning project. It includes implementation of site decommissioning including legislative requirements to protect employees and the environment against radiation and waste management in their categorization, transport, release to the environment and disposal. It deals with documentation and centralization of monitoring systems.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Characteristics of workplaces where decommissioning is envisaged. Small industrial equipment.

2.Organization and management in the decommissioning process. Legislation, recommendation, stakeholders.

3.Getting to know the location, description of on-site logistics, creating requirements for internal and external transport.

4.Planning and economic aspects. Timing of work with regard to logistics and instrumentation.

5.Apparatus (and logistics). Selection of automatic arrangements and manual techniques suitable for use in decommissioning.

6.Selection of measuring techniques based on site knowledge and inventory of radionuclides.

7.Consideration of the method of decommissioning to minimize the exposure of persons. Personal monitoring and monitoring of workplaces, realization of different objects measurement.

8.Classification of materials in terms of decommissioning. Procedure for classification of all materials according to further usability, legislative requirements and risks classification.

9.Waste reduction - ways and possibilities, storage of RAW including very low active waste - rules and practices, conditions of acceptability, packaging.

10.Release of materials to the environment - rules and practices. The procedure for separating objects and sorting materials for decontamination.

11.Schedule for storage of non-landfill waste (generally activated materials).

Syllabus of tutorials:

The content of the exercises will be the current issue in relation to the studied substance - solution of examples from practice in the preparation of documentation, examples of solving specific situations during decommissioning in the Czech Republic and abroad. Exercise will be held in cooperation with experts from Czech companies performing decommissioning.
