The course deals with the following topics - characteristics of research and science, types of research, relation to legislation and financial sources, research projects, grant applications and the grant process, basic characteristics and specifics of a professional text, content of individual sections, publishing practices, publishing ethics, citation of sources, information sources, typographical rules, mathematical typesetting, proofreading of texts, principles for creating presentations, presentation of results in the form of tables, graphs, diagrams and charts.

Requirements for the award of credit: Completion of all required preparations and independent works according to the assignment of the teachers, continuously throughout the semester in the specified time and in the required quality. Presentation of the assigned independent work to the entire class as instructed by the instructors, within the time limits and to the required quality. Active participation in the classroom, including, for example, guided discussions of presentations and peer work. Excused absence in justified cases (1 unexcused absence is tolerated). Successful completion of a final credit written test of knowledge, which may include both test or open-ended questions and a section of a professional text with which the student will work. Some questions may carry more weight in the assessment than others, for example those that are more complex and difficult. The course is assessed on the basis of the ECTS scale, with the timely submission of all assignments of the required quality accounting for 50% of the assessment and a credit test of the lecture material, exercises and assigned independent study also accounting for 50% of the assessment.

Lecture outline:
1. Introduction to the subject, objectives of the subject. 1. characteristics of research and science, types of research, relation to legislation and financial resources.
2. Basic characteristics and specifics of the professional text. Requirements for abstracts and their structure. Content of individual sections. Publication practices.
3. Requirements for qualifying papers and their structure, requirements for journal articles and their structure. Content of individual sections. Publication practices. Citation of sources, most commonly used citation styles.
4. Principles for the production of professional text - specifics of Czech and English professional language. Typography and typographical rules, numerical typography, mathematical typesetting. Proofreading texts and proofreading marks. Publication process.
5. Information sources - types, relevance, credibility. Electronic information resources (freely available and accessible via the CTU EIZ gateway). Research of the current state of the art in the given issue - possibilities and procedures.
6. Presentation of expert studies - types and possibilities, requirements and principles. Presentation of results in the form of tables, graphs, diagrams and charts. Representation of the outputs of statistical analysis in graphs. Multimedia presentation of research results, principles for creating presentations and their execution, technical possibilities.
7. Publication ethics. Ethics of research studies. Research projects. Grant applications and the grant process.
