Methodology of managing the economics of healthcare operations. The role of management and administration. Healthcare legislation and
law, application of laws in a real hospital. The role of management control and its role in the medical technology market,
Planning strategies, analysis and research of consumer and organisational markets, market development and positioning.

Lecture outline:
1. Concept-economics-philosophy and terminology. The role of economics and its principles in business management. Management and
health care administration. Comments and interpretation on selected areas - depreciation, useful life, general cost,
inflation, selling price, service, maintenance, appreciation, revision, BTK. General characteristics of VAT. Subsidies for
acquisition of fixed assets. Valuation of technological units, requisites of appraisal, assignment of technical
specifications for public tender.
2. Analysis of maintenance processes, servicing in relation to depreciation. Depreciation curves, actual cost of maintenance, servicing.
Purchase price of technology, accounting rules (procedures). Analysis of environment and competition. Market research.
Goods management of HP - instruments, tender specifications, evaluation criteria, life of technology. Goods science and technology -
consumables and spare parts, tender specifications, evaluation criteria.
3. Subsidies for the acquisition of fixed assets. Valuation of fixed assets. Classification of investments as assets
company. The tax system of the Czech Republic and its relation to investments. Project management, a tool for transparency
EDS/ SMVS, state financing. Crediting of investments in the health sector. Interest - inclusion of cash flows
in operating activities in accordance with the accounting legislation of the Czech Republic, as well as with international accounting standards and
standards of EU countries.
4. Healthcare investments and valuation. General part - breakdown of fixed assets: tangible fixed assets and
intangible fixed assets. Acquisition, depreciation and disposal of fixed assets - network diagrams, valuation phases,
life of the investment. Healthcare investments and valuation. Valuation of fixed assets (at cost,
own cost, replacement cost). Exchange differences - valuation of assets in foreign currencies.
Project management, responsibility and authority, image of the manager. Phase valuation, retention, public law.
Risk analysis. Return on investment.
5. Maintenance schedules, revisions, servicing, grading of medical devices, Atomic Act. Financial and
cost analysis. Data analysis. Short and long term investment planning strategies. Medical equipment market research and customer attitudes. Defining the process - maintenance, service and its valuation. Contract annexes,
Outsourcing, process costing, DRGs.
6. Responsibilities of technicians, doctors, nurses etc. Cost analysis in relation to the life cycle of the equipment. Decision making in
tendering, concept of value for money, valuation of maintenance, warranties, lifetime of critical elements of technology. Concepts
and terminology of routine maintenance. Optimisation of the purchase of ZT and its accessories, optimisation of medical
processes, use of ZT.
7. Prices of medical equipment, MRI, CT, SPECT, respirators, monitoring, patient records,
anaesthesia equipment, laboratory, refrigerators, diesel generators, vacuum pumps, UPS, compressors, reverse charge (VAT).

The basis of the exercise:
1. The essentials of an appraisal, developing an appraisal of equipment ( defibrillator, CT scanner), Assignment I. The operating rules of the device and
E.g. volume breathing apparatus.
2. Development of depreciation curve, consumables, maintenance valuation with link to depreciation curve - e.g.
ambulance.
3. Modelling business behaviour, psychology, self-esteem, aggressiveness, modesty, knowledge - purchase of ECG,
defibrillator, dental kit. Investment breakdown - practical exercises, designing payment terms for MR.
(device, technology, construction readiness), retainer.
4. Development of maintenance schedule ( X-ray machine, defibrillator etc). Preparation of technical specifications for
tender, evaluation (operating table, electrosurgical generator, arthroscope).
5. Valuation of the treatment process. Team work - modelling, preparation of the construction of the hospital with surgical theatres,
Inflation, credits, specific cost calculation, VAT work. ZT service calculation, maintenance and service valuation,
Modeling of negotiations with medical staff, calculation of price using exchange rate differences.
6. Symptom analysis for fault diagnosis, locating critical elements (CT, ECG, drill). Modelling
crisis situation, projected cost of service, full service, outsourcing. Tender evaluation, risk, Life of investment.
ZT and valuation, utilization design. Thesis defense, test.
7. Risk management for medical devices, test.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the basics of commodity knowledge in the field of medical devices, the effectiveness of the economics of medical operations, which is the goal and guarantee of the success and level of health care delivery.
