 Synopsis:

This course extends the knowledge gained in the course of Fluid Mechanics and supplements the topics discussed in the Theoretical Fluid Mechanics. Attention is paid to understanding the cause and effect of relationships in fluid flow, phenomenological knowledge of fluid flow, theoretical models of thin shear layers and theory of turbulence.
 Requirements:
 Syllabus of lectures:

• The conceptual framework in fluid mechanics (governing equations of fluid dynamics, phenomenological knowledge,
theoretical models, …)
• The physical meaning of governing equations of fluid dynamics (Lagrangian parcel of fluid, Eulerian description)
• The cause and effect of relationships in fluid flow, phenomenological knowledge of boundary layer development
• General development of boundary layer flow field (favourable and adverse pressure gradient, memory effects)
• 3D boundary layer (effect of pressure gradient, the effect of curvature, ...)
• Theory of thin shear layers (simplification of governing equations of fluid dynamics, ...)
• Zero pressure gradient boundary layer (Blasius equation and its solution)
• Integral methods of boundary layer solution (integral boundary layer parameters, ...)
• Free jet flow (discussion of problem formulation)
• The theory of hydrodynamic stability (Rayleigh and Fjortoft theorem, physical significance, ...)
• Turbulent flow definition, discussion of turbulent flow properties
• Flow around profile and wing (physical explanation of lift, …)
