Department of Aerospace Engineering
Synopsis:

The course has an introductory character for students of aircraft and space technology. It acquaints students with the basic design philosophy of aircraft structures, the role of certification specifications. Describes the basic types of aircraft loads, especially flight and mass characteristics of aircraft. In the descriptive part it discusses the arrangement of aircraft structures, description of its main parts and explains the load distribution on them. In the field of space technology, it acquaints students with the space environment, orbital mechanics, space propulsion and launch vehicles, spacecrafts and ground segment.

Requirements:

No requirements.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.History and development of aircraft and space technology, categorization of aircraft

2.Basic design philosophy of aircraft construction and the role of certification specifications in its formation

3.Safety, reliability and airworthiness of aircraft technology

4.Aircraft load, load factor, flight envelope

5.Weights (operational, design), center of gravity possition, mass envelope, diagram of payload - range

6.Design of basic parts of the aircraft - wing, tail surfaces

7.Design of basic parts of the aircraft - fuselage, power unit

8.Design of basic parts of the aircraft - landing gear, aircraft systems

9.Space environment - physical-technical context, vacuum, plasma, radiation, space debris, microgravity

10.Orbital mechanics - Keplerian dynamics, orbits, basic maneuvers

11.Thrusters and rockets – reaction engines, propellants, multistage rockets

12.Spacecrafts - types, subsystems, payloads, specifics of manned spaceflight

13.Ground segment and organization - production, spaceports, communications, mission, space technology in the world and in the Czech Republic

Syllabus of tutorials:

Exercises will be focused in the introductory part on practical exercises of state relations between the quantities of the international standard atmosphere and the calculation of basic aerodynamic force effects. They will also get acquainted with the content of building regulations and the way they are used in the design of loads (flight envelopes of operating multiples) according to a specific category of aircraft. In the final part, the assembly of a mass envelope and the methodology of proving an aircraft structure by numerical strength control of selected parts of the airframe (beam, cavity, strut) will be practiced. Excursions with practical demonstrations of aircraft structure tests will also be organized as part of the exercise.

In the part devoted to space technology, the main attention will be paid to the basic parameters of orbits, examples of basic maneuvers, calculation of fuel consumption and comparison of single-stage and multi-stage rockets.

Study Objective:

To get acquainted with the basics of aircraft structures, engines and astronautics.
